Nov 13

We had a long weekend so we took it pretty easy today, I introduced River to some site words and we practiced those for a bit. Today we mostly played. 

Nov 14

Today we met with our Diamond co-op group. We started with an hour of gym. Then the kids did art, and learned about a multimedia artist and then made their own using small pieces. River was excited to make a beach scene. Then we had a potluck friendsgiving lunch, everyone brought such yummy food. After lunch we worked on rehearsal for the play and worked together to make signs for the bake sale and the front door. It was a good day!
Nov 15

Today River finished up her multimedia beach picture. Then she did a haircut math worksheet practicing subtraction. We did some sculpture building with Play-Doh for a while and then we made a pulley from our Awesome Engineering Activities for Kids book. It was too low inside so we took it outside. 

Nov 17

We met with our Barefoot University friends at the grist mill at Susquehanna State Park to observe and play! The kids played by the mill for about an hour and then we took a 15 min walk/hike to a trustle bridge and worked in small groups to build our own bridges. It was very muddy/slippery and River surely fell in, but had so much fun! Then we hiked back to the mill and played for another hour and had lunch. The kids had a great time playing in the leave making piles and taking turns, they even made a leaf pool in a ditch!

Nov 18

We went to an Indigenous North American class at the Maritime Museum in HdG. It was a great lesson that kept the kids engaged in questions. The teacher had a slideshow showing tons of interesting info, but also passed around artifacts and replicas of tons of different items like homes, clothing, jewelry, eating utensils, tools, etc. then they talked about petroglyphs and had a worksheet studying different kinds, and then they got to make their own using clay. After we went upstairs to check out the NA exhibit as well as a few other interesting exhibits.

Sep 11 Today River woke up and made a catapult by herself, using the book Awesome Engineering Activities for Kids. I made up a sheet to test our catapult. River had lots of fun experimenting with her invention, it made it tricky we only had a metal spoon, but she made it work. Her cotton ball went 40 in!  - Catapult build/worksheet - MSTA word building worksheet with magnets River also had fun painting under the table with my fancy gouache - it's a surprise for my birthday! 🍰 Sep 13 Today we did some bookwork; - E/R sound worksheet - reviewed MSTA sounds worksheet - measuring worksheet in inches - measuring distance and height in inches (BQ232-235) - practiced counting by 2's (BQ174) - began counting by 5's (BQ175) We also practiced counting money. River opened a school supplies store! We weren't feeling great this week so we took it pretty easy, and unfortunately missed BU on Friday.

Sep 19 Today we had co-op with our Diamond State friends. River started with gym class for an hour, and then geography class where she learned about different land forms and made her own using playdoh, followed by drama class where she got her part in the play. They did a table read and River has about 6 lines. River received a worksheet to further develop her own character. After lunch and playing at the playground for an hour, River had nature STEM. The group was building launchers out of sticks, string, and rubber bands. River worked pretty independently, although the idea was for them to work as a group (other 6-7 year olds). Week 6 Oct 3, Oct 4, Oct 5, Oct 6, Oct 7

Oct 3 Today we had co-op with our Diamond group. We started the day taking class photos, and then moved into geography. In geography River went over the globe/continents and then made her own using a balloon and some coloring pages pasted into the balloon. Next she had drama class where she joined with her playmates to go through their first try at their play Enchanted Forrest including stages directions and setting scenery. River is pretty nervous about her lines, but excited to be with her group.  After lunch the kids had nature-based STEM where they practiced the best way to clean up an oil spill in the ocean. River's team did really well using paper towels, they got their water so clean!  Oct 4 We took it pretty slow today.
