Week 5, Sep 25, Sep 26, Sep 27

Sep 25 We are learning about Hispanic Heritage for HHM and today we talked about Friday Kahlo. We read experts from the book "Frida Kahlo Great Lives in Graphics" about Kahlo and did a craft while we read. We also worked on a HHM word search. - worked on addition and subtraction (BQ194-295) - logged numbers 11-20 (BQ172) - recognize shapes (BQ218-219, 236) - practiced long and short a sounds (BQ28, 33) - practiced spelling with puzzles  - read a few chapters of Awesome Chesapeake and are finding some local projects to do Sep 26  Today we're feeling under the weather, but we checked our rain gauge and stayed cozy with some books and play.  Sep 27 - practiced graphing (BQ188-189, 289) - practiced reading a clock, filled in clock (BQ238) - practiced counting money (BQ248-249) - reviewed recycling concept/sorting (BQ280)

Sep 19 Today we had co-op with our Diamond State friends. River started with gym class for an hour, and then geography class where she learned about different land forms and made her own using playdoh, followed by drama class where she got her part in the play. They did a table read and River has about 6 lines. River received a worksheet to further develop her own character. After lunch and playing at the playground for an hour, River had nature STEM. The group was building launchers out of sticks, string, and rubber bands. River worked pretty independently, although the idea was for them to work as a group (other 6-7 year olds). Sep 11 Today River woke up and made a catapult by herself, using the book Awesome Engineering Activities for Kids. I made up a sheet to test our catapult. River had lots of fun experimenting with her invention, it made it tricky we only had a metal spoon, but she made it work. Her cotton ball went 40 in!  - Catapult build/worksheet - MSTA word building worksheet with magnets River also had fun painting under the table with my fancy gouache - it's a surprise for my birthday! 🍰 Sep 13 Today we did some bookwork; - E/R sound worksheet - reviewed MSTA sounds worksheet - measuring worksheet in inches - measuring distance and height in inches (BQ232-235) - practiced counting by 2's (BQ174) - began counting by 5's (BQ175) We also practiced counting money. River opened a school supplies store! We weren't feeling great this week so we took it pretty easy, and unfortunately missed BU on Friday.

Sep 5 Today was our first day with our Diamond Co-op group. River started the day with 1 hour of gym, followed by geography class, drama class, and an art/stem class. In geography she learned about a compass and worked on map reading. In drama the class talked about plans for putting on a play. In stem she made her own paintbrushes with foraged sticks and pine needles and painted with her friends.  Sep 6 Today we did a worksheet on T/A sounds and worked out of our Brain Quest workbook. We also watched some of Disney's Animal Kingdom series that follows different veterinarians.  - practiced sequencing and sorting (BQ158-159) - practiced measuring pictures (BQ224-231) - reviewed SS concepts of "goods and services", like where our foods come from, food and item sources (BQ258-261) - observed maps to find the shortest route (BQ262-263) - reviewed concept of computer programming; read and reviewed a graph (BQ288) We also ended up releasing our painted lady butteries tonight!  Aug 31. - practiced the M and S sounds (worksheet) - practiced number recognition (BQ170-171) - filled 1-10 on our 100s chart (BQ172) - practiced counting by 2s (BQ173) - introduced pennies, nickels, and dimes (BQ246) - talked about our planet, land vs. water (BQ268) - connect the dots counting in Constellations workbook  Sep 1 Yesterday River got really into Uno. Last night we opened up some games we were given from my Mom, one was a strategy game with little cats and mice. She really loves the strategy of the game and I think uno has been great for her confidence, and helping number recognition. She usually wins!  Today is also our first day at Barefoot U. River did her first page in her BU journal with new friends. She did a scavenger hunt that focused on water after with two friends. She also played a round of water safety hopscotch. We had lunch and went on a hike to a pond where River worked to build 3 separate bridges, tried to make traps for minnows, and spent so...
